Nice attack 5

The challenge for governments laboring hard to protect their citizens from terrorists’ harm is almost always impossible. They have to strive to get it right 100% all the time.  But for those plotting to leave a trail of death and destruction, the task is relatively easier: they have only to succeed just once. In France, it seems that task is even harder for the government to accomplish, although no one can blame its officials for the failure. Time and again, terrorists working surreptitiously have proceeded to hatch their evil plots successfully with devastating consequences for their victims in that country, and for humanity at large.

Almost fifteen years ago, terrorists from the Middle East commandeered airplanes in flight and used them as guided missiles against targets with thousands of innocent American citizens in New York and Washington, D.C. Today in France, a terrorist behind the steering wheel of a truck plowed the vehicle into a crowd of Bastille Day revelers who had gathered in their thousands on the Promenade des Anglais in the resort city of Nice to see fireworks, in what some French officials, journalists and eyewitnesses have described as “a deliberate attack.” The BBC reports at this hour that at least 77 people have died from the attack, and that the driver of the truck was shot dead. Other reports also say more than 140 were wounded.

President Barack Obama has condemned what he said “appears to be a horrific terrorist attack. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and other loved-ones of those killed,” the president said. The AP reports that the American president is offering French officials “any assistance that they may need to investigate this attack and bring those please read.responsible to justice.”
